Early in its history, Empowering Nations sponsored development projects in Somalia and Brazil.  Since then, the organization has impacted thousands of lives on three continents with volunteers working in Thailand, Ghana, and Panama.

In 2005, Empowering Nations, with the aid of HELP International, was the proud sponsor of Wave of Hope, a project that provided reconstruction assistance to the Asian tsunami victims of Thailand during the summer of 2005.  For more information regarding our Wave of Hope project, please visit Wave of Hope.
In 2006, Empowering Nations participated in a number of projects in Ghana, Thailand, and Panama.

In Ghana, volunteers worked primarily in village schools, but also served in community orphanages, hospitals, and clinics, helped build the Wulanyilli school, and participated in health care and disease prevention programs in remote village communities. Empowering Nations volunteers also actively cared for, and continued to support, many who were in need of dire medical attention as a result of national crises, even long after their return home to the U.S.  Approximately 1800 pounds of school supplies, school kits, laptop computers, and sports equipment were delivered to the Ghanaians in the Northern Region of Ghana throughout the months of May to August.

In Thailand, volunteers continued the work of 2005 after Southeast Asia’s tsunami, providing additional service at the Cape Pakarang Boatyard by building traditional Thai long-tailed fishing boats to replace the hundreds that were lost in the tsunami.  In addition, business students conducted a feasibility study to identify future options for the Cape Pakarang Boatyard.

In Panama, a consultant was sent to Panama City to conduct a feasibility study for establishing a micro-credit institution.  Both the urban and rural areas of Panama were examined to research self-reliance and self-employment training needs.  By teaming up with already established micro-credit efforts in the rural communities, and thanks to EVA, an MBA women’s association based at Brigham Young University, Empowering Nations’ social entrepreneurs hope to assist poor villagers in starting or expanding their businesses in the near future.

In the summer of 2007, Empowering Nations volunteers participated in a number of projects in Ghana, Kenya, Peru, and Paraguay.

In Ghana, volunteers worked in the rural villages teaching in the schools, volunteering in the local health and eye clinics, conducting eye care clinics in remote areas, and helping to create an orphan registry. Volunteers also provided consulting to a local organization trying to become a registered non-profit organization in Ghana.

In Paraguay volunteers served with Fundación Paraguay and in a local pediatric clinic.

In Peru, volunteers worked with Eagle Condor Humanitarian in the rural areas surrounding Cusco, providing micro-credit and business training to small business entrepreneurs.

In Kenya, volunteers provided accounting training and business consulting to Yehu Microfinance and Coast Coconut Farms as well as worked in the local schools and orphanages.
